Welcome to the TCHA Blog!
Welcome to the Tippecanoe County Historical Association’s Blog! We hope that this regular blog post will become a source of interesting articles about local history, a forum for debate and research, and a chance for TCHA members to contribute their research and interests for the good of the Association.
In 2018, TCHA will celebrate its 90th anniversary since incorporation. Born out of the 1925 Lafayette & Tippecanoe County Centennial Celebration, the society and museum grew rapidly. The organization had actually been in operation for several years before it was revised under new articles of incorporation and given its current name in December of 1928. Charter membership dues was just $.25 back in the 1920s, with a sustaining membership level of $5.00!
In many ways, TCHA has grown far beyond what those charter members dreamed it could be. As we launch a new website and blog, it is just a small part of the exciting improvements we have planned for the future. Our mission remains the same- to preserve, collect and interpret Tippecanoe County history- but the means in which we fulfill that mission are growing and evolving to meet the needs of our audience and the possibilities of modern technology.
Today , TCHA still relies heavily in its membership for support and funding. Members of the TCHA give financially, but they also give their time as volunteers and consultants. We work closely with partner organizations like the Tippecanoe County Park and Recreation Department and the Tippecanoe County Area Genealogical Society. With their help, we offer educational programs to school children and groups at the Tippecanoe Battlefield and reach thousands of visitors through the Feast of the Hunters’ Moon at Fort Ouaitenon Historic Park. We can also help hundreds of researchers find their family roots through genealogy research or investigate local history using primary sources at the Frank C. Arganbright Genealogy Center.
We hope you will explore our new website and find the historical information useful and easy to access. We consider the website a constant work in progress, which means we plan to continue adding and revising content on a regular basis. If you don’t see what you’re looking for on the new website, that doesn’t mean we don’t have it! Please feel free to contact TCHA staff, so we can help you find the answers you need.
